Duke Energy customers in North and South Carolina will see a temporary reprieve in utility rate hikes.
The Charlotte Observer reports the North Carolina Utilities Commission approved rate adjustments that will reduce a typical residential customer bill by about $2.50 a month, Starting September 1.
It will partly offset a $7.00 monthly increase implemented in February.
The changes don't affect customers of Progress Energy Carolinas, which is now a Duke subsidiary, but the dip likely won't last.
Duke and Progress plan to seek general rate hikes in both states later in 2012.
