The cost for registration is $50, and we are accepting applications for the full range of levels in the program from Learn to Skate (age 4 or older) through our 'Midget' level that runs to age 18 (birth year 1994).
Our league has seen increased enrollment this year in the younger levels, and we are always open to others joining the league.? Tuition fees for MEB Youth Hockey have remained the same for the past three years, during times when many others have raised fees to cover increasing costs.? We have experienced a resurgence of interest in the sport and in our league over the past few years, and look forward to more of the same next season.

Study examined blood level changes in PCBs over a decade
It's never been easy to be a polar bear. They may have to go months without eating. Their preferred food, seal, requires enormous luck and patience to catch. Add to that the melting of Arctic sea ice due to climate change, and the poisoning of the Arctic by toxic chemicals, and it's easy to see why polar bears worldwide are in trouble.
Among all the bad news, however, comes one possible bright spot. In a study of PCBs in polar bear cubs in Svalbard, researchers from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) have found that blood levels of PCBs and related contaminants in polar bear cubs appear to have dropped by as much as 59 per cent between 1998 and 2008. At the same time, levels of these contaminants in their mothers were as much as 55 per cent lower over the same period.
"The levels of PCB compounds in blood samples from females are on the decline," says Jenny Bytingsvik, a biologist at NTNU who is completing her doctoral dissertation on the findings. "For newborn, vulnerable cubs, this is a very positive trend. Reduced levels of PCBs in the mother bears' blood mean that there is also less contamination in their milk. Even though the PCB levels we found are still too high, this shows that international agreements to ban PCBs have had an effect."
Banned internationally since 2004
PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) were once widely used as a cooling fluids and insulators in transformers and electric motors, but were banned by many industrialized countries 30 years ago because of their harmful effects on humans and animals. More recently, the global production of PCBs has been banned as of May 2004 by the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, an environmental treaty designed to eliminate or restrict the production and use of persistent organic pollutants, including PCBs.
Polar bears are particularly at risk from these persistent pollutants because the chemicals are fat-soluble and increase in concentration the higher you go in the food chain. That's a double problem for polar bears, because they are at the very top of the food chain, and their preferred foods, like seals, tend to be very rich in fat.
Fertility problems and more
In humans, PCBs are considered a neurotoxin and an endocrine disrupter, and exposure to high levels of the substances has been linked to low birth weights, delayed developmental milestones, and lower IQs in comparison with unexposed children. Overall, a number of studies have found that exposure to persistent pollutants such as PCBs during critical developmental periods is associated with a range of negative health effects in wildlife, experimental animals and humans.
In polar bears, "PCBs affect the bears' thyroid hormones, and in the worst case can reduce the animals' ability to survive in the tough Arctic environment," Bytingsvik adds. "There can be negative effects on the bears' ability to grow and thrive. The contaminants can also affect the ability of the animals to learn and may reduce their fertility."
From mother to cub
Polar bear milk is high in fat, which also unfortunately makes it perfect for transmitting PCBs from mothers to their cubs. Bytingsvik also looked at levels of OH-PCBs, which are toxic substances created by the body when PCBs are metabolized. While OH-PCBs are still harmful, they are more likely to bind to proteins rather than dissolve in fat, which means that they are more likely to be transferred by umbilical cord blood than by milk. Another source of exposure is the cubs own metabolic conversion of PCBs into OH-PCBs.
In her study, Bytingsvik was able to look at polar bear blood samples from mothers and cubs that were collected in 1997 and 1998 (which she considered as 1998 for statistical purposes) and 2008. All told, she had samples from 26 mother bears and 38 cubs from the different time periods.
The bears were all sampled in the Norwegian island archipelago of Svalbard, roughly 800 km south of the North Pole. Overall, Bytingsvik found that the levels of OH-PCBs in polar bear mothers dropped by 65 per cent over the 10-year span, while the levels of PCBs dropped by 55 per cent. In cubs, the levels of OH-PCBs dropped by 50 per cent, while levels of PCBs dropped by 59 per cent over the same period. Although the bears were not sampled in exactly the same location in 2008 as in 1998 (which might itself affect PCB levels), Bytingsvik believes that the findings mainly reflect changes in exposure levels over time.
Predicting the future?
While these figures are encouraging, Bytingsvik notes that the overall levels of OH-PCBs and PCBs in the cubs are still too high. As a comparison, the 2008 concentrations of OH-PCB in cubs was roughly 90-170 times higher than levels that are known to affect thyroid hormones in human babies.
"Polar bear cubs can be much more susceptible to the effects of these kinds of environmental contaminants than adults because they are in a vulnerable phase of growth and development," she says.
Bytingsvik's research is part of a larger international project to assess the condition of polar bears in the Arctic called Bear Health. The Norwegian leader of the project, Bjrn Munro Jenssen, is Bytingsvik's supervisor. He says her findings are definitely good news.
"PCBs are considered to be among the worst environment contaminants, so it's good to see that the levels have gone down," he said. "At the same time, we can't forget that animals in the Arctic are exposed to a number of other environmental pollutants that are carried northward on the wind or by ocean currents. On top of that, there's climate change. This creates big challenges for many species."

The market is fragmented due to the fact that mls associations are themselves fragmented. Zillow, and Yahoo?s Trulia are after the national market in the US, and they?re offering real estate agent advertising services.
Realestatewebmasters is perhaps the largest real estate web hosting company providing a complete content and client contact management system. Each customer is responsible for their own content development and marketing. Realestatewebmasters has some great website solutions (some customers might pay up to $30k setting up their custom site in the first year) however, because it is a system, it presents some limitations for lead conversion (standard programming). Realestatewebmasters doesn?t have agreements with all mls associations across North America.
What Zillow, Market Leader ?, Trulia, Realtor.ca, Realtor.com and other big players in this sector don?t offer to agents, is strategic, original content and dedicated marketing services. Their customers are basically provided with a generic hosting and visibility service. Agents are so desperate for leads however, that they are signing up. An advanced type of service that helps individual agents with content development services and top level SEO and Social Media strategies, will be more attractive. If an agent doesn?t get the leads and sales they need, they are quick to move onto another hosting provider. There?s lots of churn in the real estate hosting business.

Hike in Hixon Forest, paddle the Goose Island Canoe Trail, or plan a camping trip with friends. The La Crosse area provides numerous opportunities to enjoy spring outdoors, and UW-L?s Outdoor Connection helps students and community members alike through offering rental services and recreational programs.
Outdoor Connection provides a wide variety of rentals, including inline skates, canoes, kayaks, mountain bikes, cruiser bikes and backpacks. The rental service also provides supplies for camping, such as tents, sleeping bags, headlamps and stoves. Rental equipment changes with the seasons, helping students and members of the community enjoy the La Crosse area all year long.
The recreational opportunities near UW-L are plentiful. Assistant Director of Recreational Sports Nathan Barnhart explains, ?La Crosse is one big recreation area. You can hike, bike, paddle, backpack and explore a cave all within an hour of La Crosse.?
Those interested in canoeing or kayaking can paddle along the Goose Island Canoe Trail, the La Crosse River Trail, the Perrot Park Canoe Trail and the Root River Water Trail, as well as several other rivers in the area. On FOX Orlando Wednesday evening, Robert Zimmerman, the father of the man who fatally shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, said his son was the victim. He said that Martin told George Zimmerman, "You're gonna die now, or you're gonna die tonight."
?George was going to the store, and he saw someone in his community that he did not recognize as living there,? Robert Zimmerman, a retired judge, said. ??Because there had been a lot of break-ins in the area, he thought that was suspicious that someone would not be walking on the street or the sidewalk, but they'd be walking right behind the townhomes.?
Robert Zimmerman said that his son, George Zimmerman, 28, then called a non-emergency number to report this stranger. He lost sight of the teen as he looked for an address to report to police, Robert Zimmerman told the FOX affiliate.
?It?s my understanding that at that point Trayvon Martin walked up to him, asked him, ?Do you have a ? beep ? problem?? George said ?No, I don?t have a problem?.?
The elder Zimmerman said that as his son started to reach for his cell phone, Martin, 17, punched him in the nose, knocking the larger man to the pavement. ?
?Trayvon Martin got on top of him and just started beating him, in the face, in his nose, hitting his head on the concrete,? Robert Zimmerman said.
That?s when Martin spotted George Zimmerman?s gun, Robert Zimmerman said.
?Trayvon Martin said something to the effect of, ?You're gonna die now,? or ?You're gonna die tonight,? something to that effect.?
When the interviewer asked about Martin?s girlfriend, who said that he told her that he was being followed, Robert Zimmerman said he didn?t believe her.
He replied: ?I don't believe she was on the phone with him, and I find it very strange with the publicity involved with this that all of the sudden, after three weeks, someone would remember that they were on the phone. I believe the FBI and others investigating this will find that that did not happen.?
Trayvon Martin was shot in the middle of a residential neighborhood, and more witnesses are coming forward to describe what they saw. A 13-year-old who saw the shooting described seeing a man screaming on the ground before the gun went off. Cheryl Brown, the mother of the eyewitness, and attorney Alisia Adamson join Politics Nation.
The family of a 13-year-old witness told Al Sharpton Thursday morning a different perspective. Although he did not witness the shooting, he heard it and said that he heard crying and that when the gun went off, the whining ceased.
Zimmerman, a self-declared neighborhood watch volunteer, fatally shot Martin on Feb. 26 in what he called an act of self-defense. Within weeks, the story started drawing nationwide attention and Sanford, Fla. Police were accused of bungling the investigation for not arresting Zimmerman. ?
Zimmerman, meantime, is in hiding. His father told FOX Orlando that he is not doing well.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) ? The Michael Phelps-Ryan Lochte duel has been put on hold until Saturday night.
Phelps made the finals in two events Thursday at the Indianapolis Grand Prix, but Lochte was relegated to consolation heats in the 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly.
Phelps qualified seventh in the 100 free, in 50.16 seconds, and third in the 100 fly at 53.20. Lochte was 12th in the fly at 54.41 and 13th in the freestyle at 50.51.
Dana Vollmer earned the top seed in the women's 100 fly and 100 free. Four-time Olympian Amanda Beard qualified third in the 200 breaststroke, and 2008 Olympian Katie Hoff had the fastest qualifying time in the 400 free.
Former Olympians Brendan Hansen and Ed Moses will swim in Thursday night's finals in the men's 200 breaststroke, too.

ATLANTA (AP) ? Home or away, with or without Derrick Rose, the Chicago Bulls just keep on winning.
Luol Deng scored 22 points and led a flurry of 3-pointers as the NBA-leading Bulls took another game on the road, blowing out the Atlanta Hawks 98-77 on Wednesday night.
Deng was 5 of 8 from beyond the arc and the Bulls finished 9 of 16 overall to improve their NBA-best record away from home to 21-6 and their overall mark to 41-11, even while missing Rose for the eighth straight game with a shoulder injury.
The Bulls haven't missed a beat, winning six times without their MVP.
"We played great," Deng said. "Guys got easy looks because of the ball movement."
Chicago built an 18-point lead in the second quarter. The Hawks scored the final six points of the half, then started the third quarter on a 10-2 run to get to 56-52.
It was all Bulls from there. They ripped off 20 of the next 26 points and a hefty contingent of Chicago fans turned Atlanta's arena into the United Center South, breaking out the "Let's Go Bulls!" chant.
"The thing we did well is, even when they made their run, we responded right away," Deng said. "It was just a great team effort."
Atlanta's frustration boiled over midway through the fourth quarter. The Bulls took off on another fast break, leaving Joe Johnson as the only man back against three Chicago players. Carlos Boozer flipped a behind-the-back pass to Taj Gibson, who was tackled ? football style ? by Johnson, both players going down in the middle of the lane.
Amazingly, Johnson wasn't even called for a flagrant foul, but the Bulls were hardly flustered. The final minutes were nothing more than a highlight show by the road team, plus a chance for Chicago's fans to chant for little-used Brian Scalabrine to get in the game.
He checked in with a little over a minute remaining.
Deng had plenty of help. Boozer scored 20 points, Gibson added 19, while Joakim Noah and John Lucas chipped in with 10 apiece. Josh Smith led Atlanta with 19 points, but he had only six in the second half.
"It's been pretty remarkable, with all the guys that have gone down, to have the record that we do," Chicago's Kyle Korver said. "Obviously, we'd rather have Derrick playing. But guys keep stepping up."
The Hawks raced to a 13-5 lead, forcing Chicago to call an early timeout. But Deng and the Bulls turned the tide with their deadly accuracy from beyond the arc.
"Chicago is a very disciplined team," Johnson said. "Everybody knows their role and plays their role to the fullest."
Deng made three straight from long range. Lucas swished a pair. Korver and C.J. Watson also connected. Chicago outscored the Hawks 33-13 over the first 9 1/2 minutes of the second quarter, storming ahead 54-36.
"The last couple of games, they beat us in the paint, so we focused on that. But they came out and made shots," Atlanta's Jeff Teague said. "Everybody was hitting shots, from the point guards to the forwards. Not much you can do about that."
After making their first seven treys, the Bulls finally missed when Lucas' attempt bounced off the rim just before the buzzer, but the visiting team still went off with a 54-42 lead. Chicago made 12 of 18 shots in the second period and did its usual stifling job at the defensive end, holding the Hawks to 8-of-21 shooting.
Atlanta finished 32 of 80 (40 percent) from the field, looking very much like a weary team playing for the fourth time in five nights. Teague had 13 points and eight assists, while Johnson was held to 12 points ? well off his team-leading 19.1 average.
"We couldn't get anything going," Smith said. "We were trying to create some kind of energy, some kind of momentum. It was hard to generate."
Johnson said the grueling schedule wasn't the only problem.
"Sometimes, we're not so disciplined," he said. "It seems like there's a few guys who don't know their roles on this team. We do a lot of things that don't help us."
Notes: Chicago also was without Richard Hamilton (shoulder), who missed his 12th straight game but is close to returning. ... Korver went off with a bloody forehead in the second quarter after getting whacked inadvertently by Hawks C Zaza Pachulia going for a rebound. Korver was patched up enough to get through the game and was expected to get stitches afterward. ... The previous night, Pachulia caught teammate Johnson, forcing him to take several stitches in his upper lip. ... Rapper Lil Wayne watched the game from a courtside seat. ... MADISON, Wisconsin — It was just four years ago that Diplo put his production prowess on full display with M.I.A.'s mega-hit "Paper Planes." Since then, the DJ/producer has become a go-to producer for major acts like Usher, whose latest single, R&B jam "Climax," features work from the Philadelphia native.
On Tuesday, MTV News hit up the first stop on the campus-themed AXE One Night Only Tour in Wisconsin, and we caught up with the headlining DJ to talk about his upcoming projects.
"We got really luck on that one," he said of the track from Usher's upcoming album. "We just had great chemistry. I was super-nervous working with him the first two days. ... The way we did it, it was just a super-open format. He was down to do whatever we were excited about.
"I love Usher," Diplo gushed. "I'm an Usher fan. I love him for records like 'Confessions Pt. II' and 'Burn,' those are some of the first R&B records from my generation that are still lasting forever. And we did some uptempo stuff too. I don't know what'll make the album, but I think there are definitely three songs that'll make it."
Diplo is currently involved with a number of projects and luckily he was willing to dish. After working last summer with No Doubt on their upcoming record, the producer revealed he had good news to share.
"We just finished. I was actually in Jamaica last month and I went in and did some extra stuff on that record," he told us. "I'm super-excited. It's probably going to be a single for their album. They've been [tweeting] about the song, so they're excited about it. I think it's going to be a 'No Doubt featuring Major Lazer' record, because we were producers, and there's another artist on it, too, that we recorded in Jamaica.
"But you'll have to wait," Diplo warned, "I don't know how far off that record is, but every song I've heard is a bona-fide hit. '
The superstar DJ also recently took to his Facebook page and casually mentioned that he's already started production on 18 tracks for a record with Snoop Dogg.
"Snoop Dogg is an icon, man; he's bigger than the music," Diplo said. "What we're doing is a reggae record. It's like Snoop Dogg and Major Lazer together. It's all reggae and he's singing and he's doing a f---ing awesome job and I never knew it, but he had his heart in every song. ... We're going to get back into the production of it next month, and I'm really proud of that record. It's the first record I've ever executive-produced and his crew is amazing.
Righthaven. The word sounds mystical and mysterious. The first time I heard it, I had no idea what it was, or that I would continue to hear it.
Put nicely, Righthaven is a copyright holding company that helps copyright owners, such as newspapers, maintain control over their intellectual property. Put not-so-nicely, Righthaven is a ?copyright troll.? Copyright trolls are people or companies that police copyright use solely to make money through litigation. They are often considered aggressive and nasty; some trolls have purposely positioned themselves and their content so that others will use it and infringe. It?s like setting a trap.
Righthaven purchased copyrights to content that had previously been published in the Las Vegas Review-Journal. It then sued a group of bloggers and online authors after they reproduced the content without permission. The company later entered into deals with other publishers to continue doing more of the same. Righthaven eventually filed hundreds of nearly identical copyright infringment lawsuits.
The courts didn?t look upon this very favorably. Last summer, one judge determined that Righthaven didn?t have standing to sue because the copyrights were retained by the original owners. Further, Righthaven did not disclose that Stevens Media, the owner of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, was financially interested in the outcome of some of the lawsuits. Colorado courts have made similar findings. Righthaven started facing sanctions from courts for various offenses, including misrepresentation. Righthaven was also ordered to pay the attorneys? fees for some of the defendants whom it had sued. The company began defaulting on payments and by December 2011, its domain name was auctioned in order to reduce its debt. Currently, the company is estimated to owe nearly $200,000.00 in sanctions and legal fees.
Just this month a judge stripped Righthaven of its intellectual property rights that it was asserting in 275 lawsuits. Those rights will also be auctioned off to reduce debt. The judge also found that, in at least one of the larger suits, the defendant was protected by fair use doctrine, which allows for limited use of copyrighted material for commentary, news reporting, and educational purposes.
The legal and media worlds are eagerly waiting to see what happens next, but it seems that Righthaven?s downward spiral will only continue.? The story of Righthaven should serve as a warning to other copyright trolls.

TUKWILA, Wash. (AP) - English Premier League power Chelsea FC will play a preseason game in the U.S. for the first time since 2009.
The Seattle Sounders announced Monday that they will host Chelsea in a friendly on July 18.
It's the second time in three years that the Sounders will host the Blues. Chelsea first faced the Sounders during their inaugural 2009 season, a game Chelsea won 2-0 in front of 65,289.
Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay says Seattle is the perfect place for the Blues to begin preseason preparations.
Seattle announced it will open the entire stadium for the match against Chelsea and three MLS matches: Aug. 5 vs. Los Angeles, Aug. 18 vs. Vancouver and Oct. 7 vs. Portland. Seattle limits its seating capacity to about 38,000 for most MLS matches.

Electronic Arts has announced that beginning at the end of March and for a mates weeks thereafter, it will no longer be supporting online gameplay options for a large number of Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, and iPhone/iPad games.
