Talk Philly: Detecting Colorectal Cancer Early ? CBS Philly

Let?s Talk Health now and why early screenings and those checkups are so important.

Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer, and the second leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States.

The National Cancer Institute says there are more than 100,000 new colon cancer cases and almost 40,000 new rectal cancer cases in the U.S. every year.

Almost 50,000 of those patients die.

Now listen to this: it is estimated that 60-percent of all colorectal cancer deaths could be prevented with early detection.

This is Wendy Miller. She is fighting colon cancer right now.

When it was diagnosed, doctors said she probably had it for two or three years already.

Wendy couldn?t be here with us today, but her words are ones you need to hear. She says I wish I had done the screening like I was supposed to!
