Web hosting company American Internet Services announced on Wednesday it has partnered with data center operator Digital Realty Trust to expand its presence in the Van Buren facility located in Phoenix.

The AIS Van Buren Data Center serves as a focal point for the company?s disaster recovery / business continuity service offering and will play a key role in the AIS vCloudOne infrastructure-as-a-service offering.

The partnership builds on AIS and Digital Realty?s existing relationship, which started in November 2009 when it opened its first premium data center outside of the Southern California region.

AIS chose the Phoenix site because of its reputation of being one of the safest locations in the nation in terms of protection from natural disasters.

Digital Realty met AIS? requirements by delivering a concurrently maintainable facility designed for flexibility, reliability and efficiency. The data center features a 2N UPS configuration, N+1 cooling infrastructure and 24-hour onsite security/support personnel.

?Digital Realty has been very supportive of our efforts to expand our business outside of the Southern California region,? said Tim Caulfield, CEO at AIS. ?Along with being the ideal facility to anchor our disaster recovery solutions, we feel Digital Realty?s 120 East Van Buren data center will be an excellent home for a node of our VMware-based, zero Cap-Ex cloud offering.?

AIS?s regional network in the southwest region features a privately-operated 10Gbps MPLS network for connectivity to both Los Angeles and Phoenix with complete redundancy.

This network can be used to provide disaster recovery / business continuity solutions by replicating data between AIS clouds or colocation facilities. The AIS Van Buren data center recently completed the SSAE 16 SOC 1 Type 2 and the SSAE 16 SOC 2 Type 2 audits.
