My exes have always said during the relationship they would never want to be without me in their lives, even if the romance ends. For my part, I do everything I can to be mature and kind, and to end relationships in the most loving way possible. Unfortunately, they have not joined me in maintaining a healthy friendship after the fact. In some ways losing their friendship is harder than the breakup ever was.
